Annual Dinner AGM & Cocktail Party

The Annual Dinner 2009

The  Nash Rooms at the Institute of Directors, 119 Pall Mall, was the venue chosen by Alan Toulson, our outgoing President,  for the Club's Annual Dinner on Friday 16th October, 2009. None of the previous dinners had been held there – well certainly not in recent times – and the elegant rooms provided a stylish and appropriate backdrop to the evening. The 150 diners who attended  were well looked after and and enjoyed  an excellent meal, washed down by plenty of liquid refreshment.

The Headmaster, Dr Dominic Luckett, and his wife, Cara, as well as a number of  staff and monitors from the School had been invited as guests of the Club. The Headmaster, before toasting the Club,  delivered an upbeat report of the School's continuing successes as well as making some thoughtful comments about the political and economic challenges that lie ahead. Alan Toulson replied with a lively but brief report of his year of office, laced with typical moments of that delightful dry humour we have come to expect of him. He then inducted David Short as the new President for 2009-2010, presenting him with the Presidential chain, and David presented the Vice-President's badge to Mike Corby.

The evening was clearly enjoyed by all; thanks to Stephanie Gibbons for taking photographs during the evening with a level hand despite the excitement of getting engaged earlier in the evening. Congratulations to Stephanie Gibbons & Tom Kalber on their engagement and also to David Franklin who celebrated his 80th birthday. Many thanks to Alan Toulson for his painstaking attention to detail and ensuring that the evening was such a great success.

AGM and Cocktail Party 2009

Cocktail PartyThe AGM  was held on Thursday 25 June at 6.30pm at the National Liberal Club.  Alan Toulson as President was in the Chair  and the meeting  ran very smoothly.  David Short was confirmed as President, Mike Corby was elected as the new Vice-President while the executive and the Management Committee were also confirmed. Mike Corby, formerly of Winterstoke House, will be well known to many for his exploits as a GB Olympic Hockey player and National Amateur Squash champion and he will undoubtedly bring experience and enthusiasm to his role as Vice-President.   Noyan Nihat has taken over responsibility for membership and Berinda Banks will be the new School’s representative.  Andy Mortimer answered a few questions about the future of Headstone Lane.

The Cocktail party which followed proved to be the usual enjoyable occasion and the warm summer evening ensured an excellent atmosphere on the Terrace. It was good to see a number of younger Old Millhillians, including some who attended as a result of the recent successful City dinner.

Annual Cocktail party 2008

Over 100 attendees enjoyed the sunshine on the terrace of the National Liberal Club at the Old Millhillians Club annual Cocktail party.  OMs and their partners and friends had drinks and canapes whilst catching up with old school friends and making new ones.

John Watkiss ex Chairman of the Club made a presentation to Viv Wood who has retired as Club Secretary after 10 years service. Due to the generosity of club members, Viv was given some lovely presents including a French vineyard walking tour. Viv will be missed by everyone who knew her, but she will be most welcome at future OM events.

The AGM took place shortly before the Cocktail party with a turnout of 40 members.  John Watkiss has retired as Chairman and Andy Mortimer (Burton Bank 57-61) has been appointed the new Chairman of the Club.  Alan Toulson (School House 55-60) has been voted in as Vice President.  Bob Rudd will also be standing down as Treasurer of the Club.  Ronny Cohn, President formally thanked John Watkiss and Bob Rudd for their hard work and dedication to the Club  on behalf of all members.

William Winfield, former Headmaster of Mill Hill School, has been made a honorary member of the Club.  William thanked Club members formally in the AGM, for their generosity in organising his portrait and the reception at the Favell Building for the unveiling on 1st March 2008.
